People constantly try to put me in a box as a songwriter, saying, “You sound like this, what are your influences?” and my response is “Call it what you want - it is what it is.” I’m not trying to sound like anything; I’m just trying to make music. People like to put things into a tight little box and put a bow on top of it, and I just find that life is more complex than that. You can’t put a label on everything, especially with music that we’re making. It’s its own thing.
